Chief Executive Officer
Mark has over 35 years’ experience within the insurance industry. After 20 years in the Lloyd’s broking community, Mark co-founded Wildnet Group with Benfield.
In April 2004 he led Wildnet’s MBO before stepping down from his CEO role in April, 2013.
Mark joined Castel in July 2013 and has overseen the successful launch of the business and the creation of its first underwriting cells.
Mark was elected to the Board of the Managing General Agents Association (MGAA) in February, 2016.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys running, cycling and sailing.
Chief Underwriting Officer
James has over 35 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s insurance market. The last 26 years were spent at Amlin where he was most recently Global Head of Underwriting Performance. Prior to establishing the underwriting management framework within Amlin, James was the Deputy Underwriter for FC Bowring and Others with responsibility for the direct marine account.
James joined Castel in July 2015 as Chief Underwriting Officer and is responsible for establishing an underwriting governance and performance control framework.
Outside of work, James spends most of his time with his six children supporting them in numerous sporting activities
Roland is a chartered accountant. He started his finance career with Littlejohn Frazer in 2002 and after qualifying he worked for Mitsui Sumitomo, Alterra at Lloyd’s and Amlin.
Roland joined Barbican Insurance Group in 2012, initially as the Group’s financial controller. He subsequently took up the role of Finance Director for Castel and Barbican’s other intermediary companies in 2014.
Outside of work Roland enjoys running and following Welsh rugby.
Vanessa joined Castel in September 2015 from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group where she was the Aviation Claims Manager.
She has over 30 years’ experience across all classes of aviation claims and has held senior claims roles within a number of established Lloyd’s and London market underwriting businesses and brokers.
Vanessa is responsible for the management and delivery of claims services across Castel’s existing and new cells.
Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys golf, running and tennis.
Head of Operations
Zoe has over 25 years' experience in the London insurance market. Zoe started in the company market at Aegon as a Professional Indemnity (PI) underwriter before moving to Wren Syndicates at Lloyd's as PI class underwriter, also underwriting Directors and Officers and Product Guarantee insurance. After moving to Canopius in 2002, she was a PI underwriter until 2009 when she moved to operations management and became Head of Underwriting Services.
Zoe joined Castel in July 2017 and is Head of Operations acting as a central point of contact for underwriting cells and brokers in relation to any operational or system related issues.
Outside of work, Zoe enjoys her Book Groups where reading material and wine are both discussed with equal interest, while also trying to steer clear of her teenage children’s homework.
